The upcoming Seoul Motor Show will feature not only 36 new cars but also technologies for connectivity, sustainability and future "mobility services," in a bid to revive automakers' faltering interest in Korea's largest auto industry exhibition, according to officials Monday.

Starting with a media preview Thursday, the 2019 Seoul Motor Show will kick off at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, with 227 companies showcasing more than 270 vehicles until April 8.

According to the show's organizers, this year's event will be the largest in its history by number of participating companies. Of the 227, 21 are complete car brands which will offer five world premieres, 10 Asia premiers and 21 Korea premieres at the biennial show.

This year's show will be comprised of five themed sectors: complete cars; eco-friendly; self-driving and connected; robots, drones and other electrified vehicles; and auto parts.

"This is to break the conventional exhibition method of focusing on complete cars and auto parts makers," an official of the organizing committee said. "We expect the new structure will be more satisfactory for both participants and visitors."

In the complete car sector, Hyundai Motor will showcase the "new" Sonata, whose 2.0 gasoline and LPG models debuted on the local market last week. At the show, the carmaker will reveal the faster 1.6 turbo and hybrid versions of the Sonata, which will be released here in the second half.

Kia Motors will unveil two world premieres at the show ¡ª the Mohave Masterpiece concept SUV and the SP Signature concept. The Mohave Masterpiece will be a preview of the face-lifted version of the Mohave large SUV which will be rolled out in the second half. The SP Signature is a crossover that is smaller than the automaker's Niro.

GM Korea will showcase the Tahoe full-size SUV along with the Traverse large SUV and the Colorado pickup. Both Traverse and Colorado will go on sale in Korea in the second half. GM Korea will decide on the Tahoe's introduction into the Korean market depending on customer responses at the show.

Renault Samsung plans to wow visitors by unveiling the XM3 Inspire show car for the first time in the world.

Import brands will also showcase fresh technologies and new cars.

BMW will unveil the Concept M8 Gran Coupe and the M4 GT4 for the first time in Asia, as well as debuting the M2 Competition, the new X7 and the new Z4 among other other fresh models.

Mercedes-Benz will showcase the new A-Class Sedan and the new GLE for the first time in Asia. Also, the brand will display its artificial-intelligence based infotainment system MBUX during the show.

Along with carmakers and parts makers, SK Telecom will mark its debut at the Seoul Motor Show. The telecom service firm is expected to display its connectivity and self-driving car technologies including high-definition map, protection technologies for car data and other 5G network technologies.
